My name is Sherry Tyler and the
first thing you should know about
me is…I’m not some
radical ‘greenie’,
a doctor or chemistry expert.
I’m a Parent just like you.
My husband and I have two girls
(Georgia and Michael) age 7 and
11 and we live in Auckland .
I
never went to a university and
I don’t have a degree in
anything. In fact, the only thing
I consider myself an “expert”

I
know… because I do it everyday
for my friends and for myself.
My
2 year old daughter Michael developed
asthma ‘symptoms’.
So we took her to the Doctor and
he prescribed… you guessed
it… ventolin. We got a brochure
all about managing DUST MITES
and apparently we had to shoot
the cat too…
Anyway,
we tried almost everything…
…to
fix the asthma. But all that happened
was…she got eczema! We took
her to back to the Doctor who
gave us the same old story except
this time we got some cream to
fix the symptoms. I felt helpless
and just a little peeved off.
I
had to do something about it…
It
was then that the idea of the
link between common household
cleaning and personal care products
that we buy from the supermarket
or shopping mall, and chronic
childhood diseases was raised
(thankfully) by a guy called William,
a friend of my Husband.
Let
me tell you…I got busy doing
research. First, I did some ‘sleuthing’
around under my sinks and at Pak-n-Save.
I spoke to ACC. I sifted through
the Ministry of Health web sites
(I don’t recommend this
for fun). I spoke to customers
and staff of retailers who sell
eco-friendly cleaning products.
I interviewed Pharmacists, Doctors
and Nurses… I read piles
of books, booklets and brochures
on the subject all in an effort
to unearth the truth. –
and I compiled the evidence that…
ALMOST
NO-ONE EVEN KNOWS ABOUT!
I
was initially SHOCKED…
THEN OUTRAGED…
What I found out blew me away!
For
example: Did you know…
That
since World War II there has been
a dramatic rise in the number
of lethal man-made
chemicals we use
in our homes, as well as an equally
dramatic rise in certain chronic
health problems
especially in children?
The
typical New Zealand home now contains
over sixty-three hazardous products
that together contain hundreds
of different chemicals.
Here’s
the dumb part…
Like
so many parents, I just assumed
that manufacturers of household
products wouldn’t put anything
in these products that would hurt
us – would they?
So
Anyway…The information I
unearthed changed my life for
the better…for the good
of my health, the health of the
environment and most importantly,
the health of my children.
And
you guessed it… Michael’s
asthma vanished almost overnight
along with the eczema.
But
the awesome part was that I was
able to make potentially life-saving
changes without spending a lot
of extra money.
And
now I want to share this information
with you and every parent in New
Zealand because it is possible
to make your home safe too. It’s
helped me and heaps of our family
– really.
